Loch Ness Testing

I personally took a run with 'Ness' today, here's how it went.

Leaving Paradise- She had plenty of steam when she left the terminus, she could start the heavy train of 12 6-wheel coaches easily at no less than 30 mph by the time we left the yard.

Through the city- Steam pressure stayed about the same, speed increased to 50 mph.

Crossing first bridge- the water pans here worked spectacularly, steam pressure declined slightly. Speed about 70 mph

On the Lower Islands- here is where steam was being lost most. The fire simply couldn't keep up with the engine.

Perplex Bank- She completely stalled here, the smaller of the "Three Sisters", Clodwyn, was banking, when Ness stalled in the tunnel. The train had to be backed down twice due to the poor steaming of Ness. The kettle was virtually out of steam.

We decided to change locos to a Dreadnought class 6-2-0 and turn around on the sail turntable that she was too heavy for, a traction engine turned her.


Goodness gracious she needs some rethinking.
