Steering The Sentinel

Porrt Eastern Haulage #4, an 8-wheel Sentinel steam truck squeezes it's way round a sharp bend, trying not to hit anything or get stuck. This Sentinel has two big pistons and is shaft-driven to all 8 wheels with universal joints in much the same way as a Heisler locomotive. In the 1930s when road taxes an other restrictions forced most steam trucks out of work in England, many came here, where they can have steering either side, and giants like this are encouraged, as law gives larger vehicles right of way.
